Safety on the Road: Hazardous Materials Training at OBTEGO

On July 21, 2026, here in Altheim, we focused on a topic that usually goes unnoticed in day-to-day operations but is of central importance to us: the transport of hazardous materials and load securing on road vehicles.

To that end, we held a basic training seminar at our office for colleagues from production, warehousing, shipping, and sales.

The background: Part of our product range is subject to hazardous materials regulations. Anyone who fills, packages, labels, or ships these products bears a responsibility that extends far beyond the gates of their own facility.

The first session focused on the transport of dangerous goods: the obligations and responsibilities of those involved, the classification of the goods, the selection of the appropriate packaging, and the required documentation. This was supplemented by a review of the driver, equipment, and transport unit, as well as an overview of the applicable exemptions—a topic that frequently raises questions in practice.

The second session focused on load securing on road vehicles in accordance with VDI 2700 et seq.: from the legal framework to the formation of load units and the suitability of various transport vehicles and means of transport, through to the inspection of the load.

We deliberately conduct this training every year. Regulations change, teams change, and when it comes to safety, routine is no substitute for knowledge—it’s actually a risk.
